A Family Concern
We became increasingly concerned about our health and how much of it appeared connected to the quality, ingredients, and origin of the food available to our family.
We are Melissa and Travis Cole. Pure Pasture Farms began with a concern shared by many families: understanding what was really in our food and finding a better way to feed the people we love.
What began as a personal search for trustworthy food became a pasture-based family farm serving families throughout Middle Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and beyond.
Like you, we care deeply about what we feed our family. We wanted food raised without industrial shortcuts, confusing labels, or an anonymous supply chain separating us from the people responsible for producing it.
Pure Pasture Farms became our way of building something more direct: nourishing food raised with respect for the land, thoughtful care for the animals, and accountability to the families we serve.
This farm is our work, our calling, and our way of helping families return to food from farmers and producers they can know and trust.
Pure Pasture Farms did not begin as a polished business plan. It grew from questions about health, food, stewardship, and our responsibility to build something better for our family and community.
We became increasingly concerned about our health and how much of it appeared connected to the quality, ingredients, and origin of the food available to our family.
We purchased the land that would become Pure Pasture Farms and began learning how animals, pasture, soil, and natural cycles could work together.
We began producing food for local families, building the farm one season, one animal group, and one customer relationship at a time.
In 2020, we expanded into home delivery and frozen shipping. Today, families can order for delivery, shipping, farm pickup, and farmers market pickup.
We believe the answer to confusing food labels is greater transparency: real food raised carefully by farmers and producers who are willing to explain their standards and be held accountable.
Animals are moved across pasture, vegetation is allowed time to recover, and each species contributes differently to the farm ecosystem. These relationships help us build healthier soil, stronger grasslands, and more resilient farmland.
We believe the land, animals, and resources entrusted to us were created with purpose. Our responsibility is to care for them faithfully and use them wisely.
Regenerative farming is not a slogan to us. It is a collection of daily decisions designed to strengthen the soil, encourage biodiversity, support healthy animals, and protect the long-term usefulness of the land.
Animals are moved regularly to fresh areas so they can graze or forage while reducing excessive pressure on any single section of pasture.
Grazed areas are given time to rest and regrow, helping plants rebuild energy, protect the soil surface, and develop stronger root systems.
Different animal species interact with the land in different ways. Thoughtful sequencing helps distribute fertility and support a more balanced farm ecosystem.
We avoid routine chemical treatment of our pastures and instead work to improve plant diversity, grazing management, and natural soil function.
Animals receive fresh air, sunshine, room to move, appropriate shelter, and opportunities to express their natural behaviors.
Poultry and hogs are supplemented with locally grown and milled non-GMO feed, while cattle and lamb are raised without grain.
Different animals have different nutritional and management needs. Rather than hiding those differences behind a single marketing phrase, we explain how each category is raised and how our standards are applied.
We also work with carefully selected farm and food partners when they can provide exceptional products that align with the standards and transparency our customers expect.
Some of the food we offer is raised directly on our farm. Other products come from trusted pasture-based farms, processors, creameries, and Alaska seafood producers whose practices allow us to offer a more complete and dependable source of food for your family.
Our role is not simply to list products. It is to understand how the food was produced, select partners thoughtfully, communicate the standards clearly, and stand behind what we provide.
These principles shape how we farm, choose partners, communicate with customers, and make decisions about the food we offer.
We use pasture-based practices designed to protect grasslands, rebuild soil, support biodiversity, and work with natural systems.
Animals are given fresh air, sunshine, appropriate shelter, room to move, and opportunities to express their natural behaviors.
We work to provide high-quality, nutrient-dense foods that help families eat with greater confidence and less confusion.
We believe in clear standards, honest communication, and plain truth rather than attractive but misleading food-label claims.
Farming is a responsibility to care well for the land, animals, resources, and families that have been entrusted to us.
We make farm food more accessible through local delivery, frozen shipping, farm pickup, and farmers market pickup.
A conversation about faith, family, regenerative farming, and the journey into agriculture.
We joined the Grazing Podcast, produced by our local Robertson Cheatham Farmers Co-op, to talk about faith, family, farming, and Travis’s transition from nearly 25 years in the technology industry into agriculture.
It is an honest conversation about why we farm this way, what we have learned, and why restoring trust between families and farmers matters so much to us.
More than 1,500 families have purchased food through Pure Pasture Farms. Every order, referral, review, and returning customer helps us continue caring for the land, raising animals responsibly, and expanding access to trustworthy farm food.
