Making Great Meats & Long Days!

Some days do you feel like it was the longest day ever?

Yea, us to. That was the day today on Saturday, as I type this for you to read Sunday. Greetings from the past.

Saturday means Farmer's Markets, two of them to be exact. Since there are only 3 of us here at Pure Pastures that always means things need to flow smoothly.

Melissa and Justin headed out just a little after sunrise to see all our customers at the Nashville & Richland Markets while I stayed back to care for the +2,000 beating hearts at the farm.

They made a trip to the markets to find access to our cold storage facility was difficult if not impossible. The service elevator at Nashville FM was on the fritz and someone managed to spill grease all over the backup staircase which is a challenge without the hazard when you're moving +40 lb. boxes of food.

I reached out to let everybody know the tractor would not start. The tractor is our main method of hauling water to our back pastures which are quite busy this time of year. Once I managed to get it running and before the water could be delivered the front tire went flat.

The day has been less than smooth.

We are making great progress though on some critical infrastructure updates here at the farm. Last week we started installing underground water lines to serve our back pastures. This project will greatly reduce our emissions and fuel cost since we will no longer need to haul hundreds of gallons across the farm each day.

Waterline Install

We are also working diligently on a new farm store for you to come and shop from us directly from the farmstead in Barren Plains. We're excited, but we are trying to be conservative as possible on schedule predictions since it is a working farm where days like these are just inevitable and the health of the animals and the soils must always come first.

Hope you all are having a great and relaxing weekend!

Despite all the challenges in growing food we would not have it any other way and it's all possible because of you. We appreciate your support for our little farm in Tennessee and we are each eternally grateful.

Hope to be able to serve you soon!

With gratitude,

Travis (farm manager)
