  • 1 fresh ham steak (uncured and unsmoked) 
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped 
  • 1/4 cup premium cooking oil (avocado or olive oil recommended) 
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce alternative (we love coconut aminos!) 
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or coconut sugar for a healthier twist 
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 
  • 2-4 garlic cloves, finely minced 
  • A pinch of black pepper

Marinate the Ham Steak:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine chopped onion, cooking oil, soy sauce alternative, brown or coconut sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper.
  2. Place the fresh ham steak into a gallon-sized resealable plastic bag.
  3. Pour the marinade mixture over the ham steak, ensuring it is well-coated.
  4. Seal the bag and refrigerate for 4 to 12 hours. For optimal flavor infusion, gently massage and turn the bag periodically during marination.

Prepare for Cooking:

  1. Remove the ham steak from the marinade bag and discard excess marinade.
  2. Allow the steak to sit at room temperature for a more even cook.

Cooking Options:

  • Grill Method: Preheat the grill and cook the ham steak over high heat for 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Skillet Method: Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat. Place the steak in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side.
